Current Range Conditions

TO ALL MEMBERS:
Be advised that the first gate into the range (the old black Forest Service style gate) has been removed. You will now only have the second, large FRGC gate to unlock and lock as you enter and exit. It will be an odd sight to many long time members, to be sure. But the gate had to be removed due to the Fernan Lake Road project. The entrance to the range has changed drastically as well. Please use caution as you enter the range. This is temporary for our access while they are moving dirt. The final product will be a much more gradual approach into the range.

CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS AT THE RANGE:
The road has been graded so is much smoother now. Water and power distribution along the roads near the bays and the parking lot is done and just needs some clean up. Water hydrants are between bays 1 and 2, two more around the well house, another one between the main parking and Bay 6, and near the outhouse behind Bay 7. This is good, clean, potable water from our 160 foot well, with lots of pressure!

The new covers are in as of June 6th and only need painting and some finish work around the bases. Bay 4 will double serve as a parking area for those using Bays 1-3 as well as being a shooting bay for events that require it.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
We have been getting calls asking about the Fernan Road construction around the lake. I do not have specifcs other than the fact that the crews are working 4 ten hour shifts, Monday thru Thursday. So, Friday, Saturday and Sunday the delays may not be as bad. Please take note that they are setting up (as needed) stop lights on the lake road as from time to time, the road is down to one lane. Do not ignore these lights or charge ahead. You may find yourself in a head on collision! They are timed to last for 3.5 minutes on red. All we can say is to drive with caution and plan for delays. Right after Fernan Village on a tree on the right is a notice box with flyers from the Highway Administration with updates on road construction progress.

The fill area at the old public site is turning into quite the mountain itself. This will be revegetated after the job is done hauling dirt there.
