Riley Bowman's 2-Day Pistol IQ 2.0

June 13, 2026 - June 14, 2026

About Pistol IQ 2.0

This is the next step beyond my original Pistol Intelligence course intended for shooters looking to apply Pistol IQ concepts within a broader framework and more complex skills. We will start on Day 1 with a refresher on key ingredients taught in Pistol Intelligence–proper fundamentals, recoil management, visual processing concepts, and shot calling, along with the core drills that help reinforce these skills. Students will get an opportunity to shoot the Pistol IQ Standards to establish a baseline and measure where they are at.

Day 2 will then build upon this foundation and open the flood gates to exposing shooters to more challenging situations. This is still fundamentally a shooting course, but participants will be expected to apply themselves to unconventional shooting positions, movement, varying degrees of complex target arrays, and more!

What You’ll Learn in Riley Bowman’s Pistol IQ 2.0 Course

As in Pistol Intelligence, in Pistol IQ 2.0 our goal is to unlock visual performance and show you how to connect what you see with your desired results on target. You will come away with the ability to KNOW precisely where each bullet fired will impact the target before it even gets there. Some of the things in the course may seem like it has a competition focus, but I promise you these concepts are ESPECIALLY useful for gun-carrying professionals and serious concealed-carrying citizens. Learning to use your vision more effectively has been shown to actually reduce stress and improve decision-making when it matters. We will also cover the following:

  • Recoil management done the right way!
  • Concepts of sooner NOT faster
  • Vision drills
  • Shot calling
  • Accountability for hits
  • Wide Transitions
  • Proper Orientation for Target Arrays
  • More Complex Target Arrays
  • Movement (Walking & Running) & Muzzle Management
  • Shooting While Moving
  • Positional Shooting
  • Entries & Exits
  • And more!

Who Should Attend This Shooting Course?

This should not be the first formal pistol training course you have taken. This is not a class intended to teach you how to draw or how to setup your gear. This is a class to teach you how to SHOOT! Ideally you will already be a graduate of Pistol Intelligence (Pistol IQ 1.0), but this is not required. You should already be COMPLETELY comfortable with handling, manipulating, drawing, holstering, and moving with your gun with 100% safety. Already having some competitive shooting background would be helpful, or at least moving in complex training environments. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Required Gear for the Pistol IQ 2.0 Course

  • 1000 rounds of reliable ammunition
  • Quality pistol
  • A minimum of 3 magazines (if single stack, 5 mags minimum)
  • Mag pouches recommended (you should be able to carry at least 2 spare mags on your person–using your pocket is fine, too!)
  • Quality holster – No Serpas – No soft/collapsible holsters, no cross-draw or shoulder holsters
  • Eye protection (safety-rated)
  • Electronic hearing protection STRONGLY encouraged
  • Clothing appropriate for the range and weather

Matt McGuire’s (The Way Forward) Defensive Performance Handgun

August  22, 2026 - August  23, 2026

Course Description

This class is founded in the realization that, while many classes offer defensive-focused or performance-focused pistol curriculum, very few combine the concepts of defensive and performance shooting in a way that is digestible to the normal concealed carry civilian.

To that end, I developed this curriculum to clarify why high-level mechanical shooting skills are not only the foundation of competency but a minimum standard prerequisite for the responsible citizen who chooses to carry a gun. The bad guys do this for a living too, we should never assume every criminal or perpetrator isn’t as skilled as we are. Your life, or the lives of those you love, may depend on it.

We will cover the foundations of the shooting process including grip, sights, trigger control, stance, and structure. The class will focus on expanding your competency and confidence in your skill set, and refining your equipment. We will discuss the legal, mental, and philosophical backing for concealed carry as well as the psychological mechanisms which better prepare us for potentially lethal defensive engagements. My goal is to prepare your mechanical skill set and enhance your mental process, measured against the situations that you may encounter as a civilian in a defensive role.

This class is not a “beginner” class, but there is a wide range of skill levels that would benefit from it. If you can safely carry, manage your muzzle, draw and reholster, or shoot at a C-class USPSA level you are ready for this class.

This class is focused on concealed carry, as such you will need to bring the gun and equipment you intend to carry. Please do not show up to class with a battle belt/duty rig, even if you work in that equipment. Please use a quality concealed carry holster in the appendix or hip carry positions. Also, please do not bring a micro-compact pistol that holds less than 10 rounds as you will struggle to keep up with the round count of the drills given your smaller magazine capacity.

Required equipment:

Concealed carry Holster (IWB 3-5 o'clock or AIWB)

Concealed carry/Service Pistol in .380 or larger (9mm-45acp)

Minimum of 3 magazines

800 rounds of training ammo minimum, 1 magazine of your carry ammo

Magazine pouch (a clip on blade tech or similar will work fine)

Notebook and writing utensil

Hat

Eye protection and Electronic Ear protection

Appropriate weather gear

Recommended equipment:

Camp Chair

Sunscreen/Bug Spray

Water and Snacks
